How to make your own Professional Portfolio

What is a Professional Portfolio?  It is a binder in which all professional records are kept including Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This section will guide you how to make your own professional portfolio.
 
Get a sturdy binder with a spine width of around 40-50 mm.
Get a set of dividers preferably with pockets (see additional stationary.
Get two wide document storage pockets (see additional stationary).
 
Inside the professional Portfolio are the following components:
  • Professional Development Planner - name one of the pocket dividers as CPD planning or in short PLN. Design a form to plan CPD (alternatively you can order ProCPD planning forms for 20 cent each page). The plan should have the following columns:
    • Date
    • Learning need/Goal - identify areas in which you lack knowledge or practice in relation to known professional standards
    • Plan description -describe what are you going to do to improve or how do you plan to achieve this knowledge
    • Evaluation of the plan - occasionally evaluate whether you did achive the goals set
  • Professional Development Records - name one of the pocket dividers as CPD Records or in short REC. Design a form to record CPD activities (alternatively you can order ProCPD CPD records forms for 20 cent each page). The CPD records should have the following columns:
    • From Date-Time
    • To Date-time
    • Where - the place in which the activity took place (home, Uni, Work - try to be specific)
    • Why - the reason for doing the activity
    • CPD activity - describe what the activity was. What actually happened, reflect and evaluate the contribution of the activity to your practice
    • Hours - what was the length of the activity in minutes - subtotal the hours for a page and for a year 
  •  Professional Development Diary - name one of the pocket dividers as CPD Log or in short LOG. Design a form to record CPD log or CPD diary (alternatively you can order ProCPD CPD Log forms for 20 cent each page). The CPD Log should have the following columns:
    • Date
    • Log - free text about daily practice and reflections about practice that build up your professional development  
  • Education - name one of the pocket dividers as Education or in short EDU. Place the following documents inside
    • Education transcripts
    • Education sessions
    • Seminars
    • Conferences
    • Presentations
    • Study day certificates
  • Professional Standards - name one of the pocket dividers as Professional Standards or in short STD. Place the following documents inside:
    • Relevant practice legislation
    • Competency standards
    • Code of conduct
    • Ethical standards
  • Experience - Name one of the a wide document envelop Experience or in short EXP. Place the following documents inside:
    • Certificates of service
    • Job descriptions
    • References
    • Resume
    • Curriculum vitae
  • Registration - Name one of the a wide document envelop Registration or in short REG. Place the following documents inside:
    • Registration certificates
    • Police approval certificates
    • Committee/union memberships
    • Citizenship certificates
